For auction, this beautiful Gunter's Quadrant made by Franklin Mint
It was Ptolemy who, in the second century A.D, first proposed using a quadrant or quarter-circle, rateh than a full-circle instrument to measure declination and zenith distances. Over the next centuries the basic quadrant remained realtively unchanged until 1618. In that year, mathematician Edmund Gunter rediesigned the quadrant, engaraving a stereographic projection of a part of the equator, ecliptic, the tropics and the horizon onto the plane of the equator. By sighting on a particular astronomical information, as well as distancies, date and time of a day. Five years after its invention, Gunter delivered a paper describing the quadrant, which gained immidiate acceptance within the scientific community.
This is a precision calibrated instrument. An ideal gift for any enthusiat/collector or scientific instrument. Pictures are part of description.
