Up until now, this Hermes square titled "La Promenade de Longchamps" signed 'Ledoux' in the centre (Philippe Ledoux), is still very popular. This scarf was issued for the first time in 1965 and has been reissued several times since. It is in good condition, the hem is lightly distended on the back in several small places, but that doesn't have an impact on the area and there is 1 fold line that stayed, but it is small and invisible when the square is folded and there are two small dots hardly noticeable on the left of the scarf, it's necessary to look super closely to see them, if necessary that they be removed, remember that this is 100% silk item, because there is no longer a tag.
This square represents the elegant Parisians on their way to the races at the Hippodrome de Longchamps in the 19th century. It was exactly the thing to do to and to see Many famous (and less famous) Parisians made their way through the Promenade du Longchamps up to the centre of the renowned hippodrome of the Bois de Boulogne to see and be seen.
- In good condition.
- Hand-rolled hem.
- 100% Silk.
- Approximate Size: 90 x 90 cm
For a little anecdote, Philippe Ledoux left an indelible mark on the house of Hermès, especially on the Hermès Square. He embodied both elegance and coarseness at the same time and possessed a great sense of humour and a generous spirit.
Enlisted by Robert Dumas in 1947 to design for Hermès, Ledoux was born in 1903 in Britain to French parents. His incredible talents as an artist and illustrator can be found in the 90 squares he created for Hermès. He was involved in designs featuring equestrian and naval themes, themes dear to Mr. Dumas, which became among the most collected Hermès squares, such as 'Springs' and 'La Promenade de Longchamps'.
His art will live on, whether in a book or a magazine, or even better, in a pretty vintage square.
