La Stilografica Del Centenario
Result of the project collaboration between Vallecchi and the prestigious Florentine company Visconti, the ‘1903’ fountain pen is available in a silver version with a circulation of 1903 pieces (IN ANOTHER AUCTION) and in a gold edition, with a circulation of 100 pieces.
A century-long dream.
2003, Vallecchi turns one hundred years old. Beginning of the activity of its founder, Attilio Vallecchi, dates back to 1903 with the printing of the two great magazines: ‘Il Leonardo’ and ‘Il Regno’. And one of the few publishing houses in Italy to be proud of such a long history. It is not only duration that is unique, but also the quantity and versatility of talents that centred on it. Storytellers, poets, artists, architects, musicians have gathered around the figure of this courageous publisher giving rise to a unique circle that made Florence one of the cultural capitals of Europe at the beginning of the century. Vallecchi wanted to celebrate this event with the creation of a jewel that well represents the intellectual activity of writing, the fountain pen ‘1903’, to testify in future years as an instrument of active memory of Italian genius and creativity.
In the spirit of tradition, only resins and celluloid were used as a base for the pen. These typically twentieth-century materials are elegant, shatterproof, resistant to inks and eco-friendly. Each piece is hand-crafted by lathing raw bars piece by piece. The filigree and the ring are engraved on rhodium-plated silver tubing and the clip is made of solid silver micro-casting, for the silver version. In the gold version, the filigree and ring are engraved on a gold tube and with 18 kt solid gold microcast clip, embellished with two sapphires. Each fountain pen has its own story to tell, starting from cutting and passing through lathing, to arrive to the final assembly thanks to the work of experienced craftsmen and eventually reach its owner’s hand as the ideal writing companion.
BIF§ZF+18 Simultaneità e Chimismi Lirici
A great classic of futurist poetry from the early twentieth century is presented in an accurate anastatic edition that reproduces the original printed by Attilio Vallecchi in 1919, after a first edition of 300 copies in large format published in 1915. Almost impossible to find on the shelves of antique dealers, the small book collects poetic essays by Ardengo Soffici dating back to the period of the magazine ‘L'acerba’ and the second ‘Voce’. Remembering the days spent in the printing press of his friend Vallecchi editing the 15th edition, shortly before going to war, Soffici explains the genesis of the curious title, suggested “by one of those eccentric combinations of characters and typographical signs” obtained by breaking down the lines used to build the page ready for printing, and which seems to him expressive of the “fantastic singularity of the text”, with the addition of the more explicit subtitle: ‘Simultaneità e Chimismi Lirici’. Vallecchi dedicates to its readers the book that gave its name to the new exhibition space ‘BZF’, in the historical heart of Florence. In these pages, scathing and unscrupulous in their modernity, we could appreciate a precious essence of the atmospheres and themes dear to the avant-garde protagonists of the European twentieth century and the expressive research of a self-taught painter-literate, disconnected from the knowledge of academies but a pioneer of the best art critics in Italy.
