Mid. 20th century
39 cms. high. 33 cms. width
Its size makes it striking and interesting.
Carved on wood, with metal sheets, shells and beads.
The most valuable aspect is the delicate work of incrustation of colored beads forming series of circles and combining red with orange, black and blue.
This makes this mask extremely original and interesting from the artistic point of view.
To adhere the colored beads, a bituminous paste has been used.
Antiquity: its previous owner bought it in Africa, possibly in Kenya, in the 70s. Some blurry labels are kept with their price and an attribution to the Ashanti of Ghana, but that attribution is doubtful. The decoration and some other details suggest more likely its origin in the Luba people (Democratic Republic of the Congo).
