Very fine quality early white star line olympic A class Tureen made by the goldsmiths and silversmiths company situated at 112 regent street w, england, made for A class passengers and is a very fine example. The white star line flag is slightly earlier and is not the etched type normally seen on later plated wares.
Ocean liner silverplate is always of a thick and heavy gauge, as a direct result of this silverplate survives in large numbers due to its quality and construction to this day. White star line were a very loyal company, they returned time and time again to the same trusted suppliers, Elkington, Goldsmiths and silversmiths, walker & Hall are some examples. Goldsmiths and silversmiths company were often commissioned to produced finer quality pieces for A class passengers of the oceanic ships, and were made to a much higher standard of quality, whereas Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb were commissioned for items made for 2nd and 3rd class passengers.
