Please note that – unlike most other publisher seals – this round seal is almost always found on the inside of the printed picture (overprinted) and is situated in the lower right corner of the print. Made by hand, random placement.
Watanabe publisher seal right in the lower right corner, displayed in the same manner as can be found on "Shin-Hanga" prints by artists such as Hokusai and others. In flawless unused condition.
This piece of work is a fantastic composition with strong lines showing a big wave that crashes upon a boat. The perspective has a low angle and the shadowed waves are key to this work that is one of the most important masterpieces and the most well-known Ukiyo-e landscape composition.
Katsushika Hokusai; * probably 31st October 1760 in Warigesui, Honjo, Edo (today: Sumida, Tokyo); † 10. May 1849 in Henjōin, Shoten-chō, Asakusa) was a Japanese artist
It is one of the most popular pages of the Ukiyo-e genre. His most well-known pieces are the coloured woodcuts of the series "thirty-six views of Mount Fuji" to which this piece belongs.

"Breath-taking" is the word that is reserved for pictures that literally stop your breath, such as your first look on Hokusais wild breaking wave that has you gasping for breath - partly due to the audacity of the artist, but mostly to take a last gulp of air before this mountain of water capsizes onto your head. The colour scheme is very simple: aside from the boats and the sky everything is in blue and white, the deep blue of the ocean utilized for Mount Fuji. The white portions. Naturally those are simply not printed upon, as is customary for woodcuts. The signature reads "Hokusai became litzu".
Very fine - flawless
Excellent colour and details.
