The magnums are in perfect conditions, they're directly coming from the estate own' cellar where they were bottled and kept until today. Levels full neck, labels as new.
It is true that Henry IV was an end drinker, baptized in Jurançon at birth and self-proclaimed "sire d' Aÿ" because he had a temporary preference for the red wine of the Champagne village. He also enjoyed the wines of Arbois and Orléans, but it is less known that on a stormy day in the summer of 1578, the Béarnais, who was still only King of Navarre, fell under the spell of a very feminine Saint-Emilion. Fleeing the sudden storm, the King and its sequel found refuge at the Bousquet hostelry, run by Bigaroux's husbands. He found the wine so good, and the young woman from the innkeeper (Marion) received it so eagerly that before returning to the road the next morning, he thought it was time to reward his guests. Hence the authorization granted to transform their humble home into a "noble house" with the usual seigniorial attributes : two elegant turrets and a dovecote with 400 cells, which is nowadays the most important of all Aquitaine.
And it was before leaving the innkeepers that the fiery Béarnais advised them to call their future home "Lou Castelot (the little castle) in memory of me". The order was followed to the letter and the estate prospered until the beginning of the 20th century before it collapsed. It threatened ruin even when, in 1978 (very exactly four hundred years after the passage of King Henry), it was opportunely bought back by Jean-François Janoueix, the descendant of a family established in Libourne in the 19th century. A wine merchant and owner of about fifteen estates in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol in particular, it took ten years with the help of four masons to meticulously restore Le Castelot and its 10 hectares of vineyards.
