Upper Jurassic (148 million years ago) - Solnhofen, Eichstatt, Germany
This is a remakably well-preserved prehistoric crustacean from the famous Solnhofen quarry near Eichstatt Germany. It dates back to the Upper Jurassic 148 million years ago.
Species: Palinurina longipes. In association with this interesting crustacean are three floating crinoids, making this an extremely exceptional fossil example of Jurassic sea life.
The matrix is 8 x 8 x 0.75 inches (20.3 x 20.3 x 2 cm) of lithographic limestone. The fossil crustacean measures is 5 inches (12.7 cm) long (including the antennae) and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) without antennae. Truly a rare and unique fossil that is museum quality.
This specimen was found in the same region (Solnhoffen, Germany) where Archaeopteryx - the feathered dinosaur - was found in 1861.
Condition: Very good. Plate was re-glued.
