About the artist:
Piero Fornasetti (Milan, 10 November 1913 - Milan, October 1988) was a painter, sculptor, interior decorator, art book printer, designer and creator of more than 11,000 items, in the field of scenography and costume, and organiser of Italian expositions and initiatives on an international level.
Works by the artist:
In 1942, he painted a fresco on the Bo Palace in Padua, in 1947 he displayed a series of decorative motifs on ceramic at the VIII Triennale di Milano, also commissioned by Gio Ponti.
In 1950, he also decorated the interior of the Sanremo Casino and the 'Dulciora' bakery in MIlan.
Also in 1950, among his various other creations in the field of industrial design, he gave life to the Sole, a chair made of wood decorated with a design depicting a full sun on the seat and a half sun on the backrest; the chair, with a very geometric and stylised form, is only available in one colour: yellow powerfully contrasted by the black legs. The collaboration with Gio Ponti continued and in 1951 he created the first example of complete interior design for 'Casa Lucano'.
In 1952, he created the interior decoration of the 'Andrea Doria' ocean liner, as well as that of another ocean liner: the Conte Grande.
From 1955 to 1958, he dedicated himself to the creation of the 'Stanza Metafisica' and in 1987 he created, in collaboration with Patrick Mauries, a book on all of the pieces in his possession containing all the artistic life of the Italian artist
