Circa 1880 - United Kingdom
Antique sweets/biscuits box consisting of three pieces: the base hallmarked on the bottom, the container made of stunning cut and carved crystal and the lid also made of finely engraved and hand-tooled Sheffield glass.
The company for making silver ornaments was founded in 1806 by James Dixon. Some maintain that the bugle with the commercial brand of the banner was officially registered in 1881, even though it was in use before.
The ‘Bugle and Banner’ undoubtedly identifies Dixon production. This is a fundamental element for avoiding mistakes with the brands JD & S also used by another Sheffield manufacturer. Dixon was also one of the main British manufacturers during the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s. He was the most famous manufacturer of British metal and world leader in the manufacture of accessories and numerous other items.
United Kingdom - circa 1880.
In good condition, the crystal container has a small, almost invisible chip in one of the corner.
